A place where healing
and hope come first.
At Hope's Beacon, we're a place where healing and hope come first — founded in 2017 by Stephanie, who made a life-changing career shift after her own long struggle with anxiety and depression.
After years in the banking world, she realized her true calling was to help others navigate their own journeys of healing. During her personal battle, the image of a 'beacon of hope' became a guiding light for her, and it stayed with her as a symbol of possibility and renewal.
This vision inspired Stephanie to create a space where others could experience that same hope and healing, and that space has grown into Hope's Beacon. Every detail of how our practice operates is centered around your healing and next steps, from the moment you reach out to the ongoing support we provide.
Stephanie's journey gives her a deep, compassionate understanding of what it's like to face dark moments — and she's passionate about offering the support and guidance needed to help others find their way through. Now, she has assembled a team with the same passion to multiply this impact, reaching more people in Cheyenne and beyond.
We offer in-person and telehealth, covering all corners of Wyoming, and we bill all major insurance companies including BCBS, Optum (UHC/UMR), Cigna, Aetna, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare and Victim Services. Self-pay rates and reduced rate applications are available for those who need them.
Stephanie McMackin
MSW, LCSW
I founded Hope's Beacon Counseling in November 2017, driven by a deep love for people and a genuine passion for helping others discover their own unique paths to healing, growth, and greater happiness. My childhood was spent on cattle ranches in rural southeast Wyoming, where I learned the importance of caring for all living beings, especially during the toughest times. It's also where I developed my 'make a way, find a way' mindset — finding creative solutions with limited resources to ensure the health and safety of every living being.
My first career in banking also played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today. It taught me invaluable lessons about the power of relationships, the importance of being introspective, and the ability to extract deep insights from every experience. It was during this time that I began to realize my true passion: helping individuals recognize and celebrate the incredible miracle of who they are, regardless of past choices, behaviors, or experiences, particularly those they may regret or feel shame about.
In my counseling practice, I take a warm and welcoming approach, always striving to create a 'safe space' where clients feel free to express themselves without fear of judgment or shame. I view each person as a unique individual and take a holistic perspective, understanding how all aspects of a person's life influence them and how past experiences have shaped their current selves.
I work with individuals 13 and older — teens, adults, couples, and families.
Frequently asked questions
We understand that reaching out for help can feel intimidating, and knowing what to expect along the way can offer some peace of mind.
What should I expect during my first session?
Your first session is mostly about getting to know you. We'll talk through what brought you in, what you're hoping for, and answer any questions you have. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with.
How do I know if counseling is right for me?
If something in your life feels stuck, painful, or worth exploring with support, counseling can help. We offer a free 15-minute consultation with any of our counselors so you can get a feel for whether it's a good fit before committing. Just call our office to schedule a time.
What types of therapy do you offer?
Our counselors are trained in a range of evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches — including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mindfulness-based techniques — and we tailor our work to each person. We don't believe in "one-size-fits-all" therapy.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes — we offer both in-person sessions at our Cheyenne office and telehealth video sessions for clients anywhere in Wyoming.
How long will therapy take?
It depends on what you're working through and your goals. Some people find what they need in a few months; others stay longer. We'll regularly check in about your progress and what feels right for you.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes — we bill all major insurance companies including BCBS, Optum (UHC/UMR), Cigna, Aetna, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and Victim Services. You're responsible for confirming your eligibility and for any copays, coinsurance, or deductible amounts at the time of service.
What costs are involved if I'm self-pay?
Our regular fees for covered services submitted to your insurance range from $180 to $220 per session. If you prefer to self-pay (not submitted to insurance), the rate is $100 per session. A reduced rate option is available for those who qualify — ask the front office for an application. The full fee schedule is on our Practice Policies page.
Is everything I share in therapy confidential?
Yes, with limited exceptions required by law (such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or abuse of a vulnerable person). We'll go over confidentiality in detail at your first session.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please give us at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations without 24 hours' notice are charged a $50 late cancellation fee, and missed appointments are charged the full session rate. See our Practice Policies for full details.
What makes Hope's Beacon different?
We're a small practice that takes the personal in 'personal connection' seriously. From your first phone call to your hundredth session, we want you to feel seen, not processed.
