Child & Adolescent Behavioral Concerns Counseling
Support for kids, teens, and the adults who love them.
Children and teenagers don't always have the words for what they're experiencing — but that doesn't mean they're not experiencing it. Behavioral changes, school refusal, withdrawal, emotional outbursts, anxiety, and mood shifts are often a child's way of signaling that something is wrong. Getting them the right support early makes an enormous difference in outcomes.
At Hope's Beacon in Cheyenne, Wyoming, our therapists work with children and adolescents using developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approaches tailored to their age and needs. We also involve parents as partners in treatment — because what happens in the therapy room needs support at home to stick.
What We Treat
We work with children and teens experiencing anxiety (school anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, generalized worry), depression, behavioral challenges, ADHD, trauma and abuse, grief, adjustment difficulties after a family change or move, and self-esteem concerns. We also support teenagers navigating identity development, LGBTQ+ concerns, peer relationship challenges, and the pressure of adolescence in a social media era.
Our Methods
With younger children, therapy often incorporates play, creative expression, and storytelling — because these are the languages children think in. With teenagers, we balance structure with respect for their growing autonomy. We draw from CBT, DBT skills work for emotional regulation, trauma-informed approaches, and Internal Family Systems-informed work where appropriate.
Parent Involvement
Parent consultation is built into our work with minors. We help parents understand what their child is experiencing, how to respond in ways that help rather than escalate, and how to create a home environment that supports the therapeutic work. For some families, the most helpful intervention is parent coaching — working with the adults to change the relational patterns affecting the child.
