Insomnia & Sleep Counseling
Practical strategies for better sleep.
Sleep is not a luxury. When it goes wrong — when you lie awake at 2 a.m. with your mind racing, or wake at 4 and can't get back under — everything suffers. Your mood, your patience, your concentration, your physical health, and your ability to cope with stress all depend on restorative sleep. Chronic insomnia is both a symptom of underlying distress and a problem that compounds everything else.
At Hope's Beacon in Cheyenne, Wyoming, our therapists treat insomnia using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) — the approach endorsed by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine as the most effective long-term treatment for chronic insomnia. Unlike sleep medication, CBT-I addresses the underlying causes and produces lasting results without dependency.
What CBT-I Involves
CBT-I addresses both the behaviors that perpetuate poor sleep and the thoughts and anxiety that make it worse. Techniques include sleep restriction therapy (counterintuitive but highly effective), stimulus control, sleep hygiene tailored to your actual life, relaxation and mindfulness skills, and cognitive work to challenge the catastrophizing thoughts that keep you awake. Most people see significant improvement within 4–8 sessions.
Sleep and Mental Health
Insomnia rarely exists in isolation. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and trauma all disrupt sleep — and poor sleep makes each of these conditions worse. Our therapists are equipped to address the mental health dimension alongside the sleep-specific work, rather than treating insomnia as a standalone problem divorced from your broader wellbeing.
Who We Work With
We work with adults experiencing chronic insomnia, shift workers, veterans with disrupted sleep from PTSD, new parents, and people whose sleep has been affected by grief, major life transitions, or chronic pain. We offer in-person appointments in Cheyenne and telehealth across Wyoming. Most insurance plans cover sleep-related mental health treatment.
You deserve to sleep. Contact Hope's Beacon — and let's get you there.
Our counselors draw on a range of approaches — including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), DBT, EMDR, and mindfulness-based techniques — tailored to you, not a template. We bill all major insurance plans including BCBS, Optum (UHC/UMR), Cigna, Aetna, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and Victim Services. Self-pay is $100/session, and reduced-rate options are available.
